What Would The World Be Like Today If Nuclear Weapons Had Never Been Discovered?

This entry was posted by on Thursday, 10 December, 2009

Without nuclear weapons, most of the technological advances since WWII would never have been made. No TV, no PC, no cell-phone, no Tang.
There certainly would have been technological advances, but nothing approaching what has actually happened.
This is because without nuclear weapons, there would have been no space program, no satellite communications, and no pressing need to miniaturize electronics or create new high-tech materials like plastics and carbon composites.
All of this was a consequence of the possibility of nuclear weapons, mostly because of the race between the US and USSR to achieve nuclear dominance over the world.
Without all this, there would have never been the huge explosion of world economy. We would not have had the money to put up superhighways all over the place, and we would not have developed the scientific techniques to build all the new technologies we have today.
So what would the world be like now?

  1. Question

If to say there where no technological advancement, just a lull in the progress of human creations, life would be simpler. But we’d not know that, for example, the speed of which to send mail would not be considered so slow, unless people wanted to send in such immediacy that is not entirely eradicated today. It’d be tied down more to nature, and less onto the digital meaning, where talking and writing in the physical is still continued and honed as an important skill. That is to say, it would all be better of without the industrial revolution too, since that ultimately lead up to our present technology. But you can’t completely say, there are numerous ways the past could have turned into the future, just think about the movie ‘Butterfly Effect’, based on the chaos theory and such. Even if you changed something for the best, you most probably won’t get the result you’ve ultimately went after.
In the end, we’d just be rambling on maybes and possiblies, because for all we know, it could have turned out for the worse.

If nuclear weapons hadnt been invented, the world would have created other forms of “weapons of mass destruction” to compensate for the lack of nukes.
I doubt it would have changed much,
